The goal is the right decision, not consensus. Consensus can lead to avoiding tough and needed changes and decisions. Consensus can result in the lowest common denominator decision that “everyone can live with” but no one really gets behind. Participation by those involved, along with a clear explanation of the decision gets people on board and creates respect for leaders who make the tough call.
