Understand that fear of change is a normal human reaction. People fear the unknown and anticipate pain. They understand and know the status quo. Change means leaving the safe harbor and venturing into uncharted waters. You must address this natural resistance to change at the outset and recognize, along the path of change, when fear is causing resistance.

Terry Gardiner is the founder and President of Silver Lining Seafoods and NorQuest Seafoods - a medium-size Alaska seafood processing company; and currently a Board member of the Anvil Corporation, an employee-owned company specializing in oil and gas engineering.
