No organization has a 100% success rate in hiring decisions. One way to improve the success rate in hiring decisions is to be aware of the most common problems.
Common hiring problems include: (1) Asking illegal and inappropriate questions resulting in legal action; (2) Asking closed-ended questions that don’t uncover problems; (3) Lack of a background check that fails to uncover critical information; (4) “Gut” or quick decisions because the candidate comes recommended by a trustworthy person or interviews well; and (5) Letting the fear of losing a candidate overtake the hiring process.
